Greenheck Fans Exceed Energy Requirements

Products must meet strict requirements to prevent greenhouse gas emissions to earn the Energy Star label (https://www.energystar.gov/buildings/about-us/energy-star-certification).

Not only do these Model SP fans bear the Energy Star label, but also hold the AMCA Seal for Sound and Air Performance and are UL/cUL listed (https://www.amca.org/UserFiles/file/amca_311.pdf). These fans are direct drive models that have forward curved wheels for low sound and high efficiency. • Install an air handling system that heats and cools while providing superior energy savings.
• Improve indoor air quality for employees and visitors as well as the animals. Eliminate odors by increasing frequency of fresh air changes.
• Remove humidity from frequently washed kennel areas and from incoming outside air during the hot, humid Iowa summers.
• Separate kennel air from office and the community center area to prevent odor infiltration.

Jensen Builders worked with Greenheck to face these challenges and satisfy all of the Humane Society of North Central Iowa’s needs. Although the new structure is four times the size of the old one, (2,500 square feet to 10,000) they managed to decrease the annual gas and electric energy bills from $25,000 to $16,600.

This project is a fantastic sample of how versatile these Model SP fans are, being applied in offices, veterinarian rooms, and a 1,200 square foot multi-purpose community room. With four Model SP ceiling exhaust fans, one Model CSP inline cabinet fan, and two dedicated outdoor air systems with heating, cooling and a total enthalpy energy recovery wheel, Model ERCH, Greenheck was able to improve their already impressive portfolio of projects they’re involved in that improve our society.

The most expensive aspect of this were the two Model ERCH units. When asked, Larry Clement, a board member for the animal shelter, said the units paid for themselves in two years.

“We know that the savings will continue for many years to come, and that’s important to our operations budget,” Clement said. “We couldn’t be happier with the quiet operation and the quality of indoor air. You don’t hear the fans running at all. And with 12-15 air exchanges per hour in the office area and the kennel area, there are absolutely no odors present in the office or community center area. We had a lot of respect for the quality of Greenheck products prior to installing them, but this ventilation system has exceeded our expectations, and those expectations were high.”
